WW2 bomb damage to 3 & 5 Ingleby Terrace, Camp Road, Maryport. German bombers in the cover of darkness would be trying to bomb the airfield at Silloth, or the Royal Navy Ammo Dump at Broughton Moor. Or sometimes, they’d drop their payload before flying home to save fuel, leading to stray bombs being dropped on towns of very little wartime threat, they even thought they were over the water at times. On this occasion, the bomber that done this damage was so low that the silhouette of the pilot could be made out, and it could almost touch the chimney stacks. I’m sure others who remember this or heard stories would be able to offer their narrative.
Also, remembering the 8 people killed in Maryport during WW2, between 1940 and 1943.
